Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is understood to be ready to leave the club this summer, putting a host of top clubs in Europe on red alert.

The Frenchman has been coveted by Spanish giants Real Madrid for a long period, with Manchester United and Chelsea also monitoring the player's situation, and further interest coming from Italy in the form of Milan and Inter.

Bayern have adopted a resolute stance regarding Ribery, insisting the player will only be sold for an astronomical sum of money, believed to be around €70 million (£60m), which would smash the British transfer record.

Ribery is thought to favour a move to Madrid with Los Merengues, but according to UK newspaper The Times, the attacking midfielder is now so eager to leave Germany that he may opt for a more immediate exit in the form of a move to the Premier League.

Chelsea have been the club most hotly tipped to up their interest in the star, as they still look for their first marquee signing since the arrival of new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Relations between the player and his current club have been strained this week, as he took part in a France’s international meeting with the Faroe Islands, despite not being passed fit to play by Bayern officials.
